Size guide for JR & children

Shoe guide for children

We help you find the right shoe size for your children, through the table below. A child's feet grow fast and should be reviewed from time to time. Below you see a general indication of size, how much a child's feet grow in a year and size per shoe model.

How should I measure the children's feet?

The easiest way to measure a child's foot is to place a piece of paper next to a wall. Then place the kid’s foot on the paper, with the heel next to the wall. Draw a line in front of the longest toe and then measure how far it is between the wall and up to the line. Remember that the child needs to stand straight up when you measure as the foot is pushed out a little extra by the body weight. It is good to measure both feet in case they have different sizes. If the feet are different sizes, use the longest. When you have obtained the length of the foot, add how many centimetres extra, the shoe should be. What this number depends on the type of shoe, which you see in the table below.

When you choose shoes for your child, the shoe should fit comfortably from the beginning. If the shoes are too tight and need to be tucked in, it means that the size is too small or that the model does not fit your child's foot.

When are the shoes too small?

Children's feet usually grow in periods, and sometimes very much. The younger the child, the faster the foot generally grows. We recommend that you check how the shoes fit a little now and then, it is never nice to play in too-small shoes. When there is less than 5 mm left in front of the toes, it is time for new shoes, otherwise, the toe will hit the shoe when the child walks.

What child size of shoes?

Our table gives an indication of what size you should buy for your child. For exact size, we have a size guide on each pair of shoes' product page, just above the choice of size. When choosing a size, take the child's foot length + the shoe model's extra centimetres + 5 mm. This together will be the size you should choose.

Guide for clothes

We help you find the right child size with simple tips and advice that may be good to keep in mind.

A general tip for centimetre size is that the child's size is the same as the number of centimetres the child is tall, e.g. the child is 120 cm tall, the size is 122/128. This is general advice that only provides a guideline for size selection and is true for all children.

How should outerwear fit?

The most important thing is that the clothes fit comfortably for the child so they can move freely and play. Make sure that the child can move his arms and squat without tightening or rubbing. The sleeve should not end up high on the arm or end over the fingers. The leg on trousers should not end up above the foot and the child should not walk on them either. The branch of the trousers should not end up far down so that it prevents the child from running free.

Test if the outerwear fits:

Jackets:

- Have the child stretch his arms straight up. The cuffs should then cover the wrist.

- You should be able to take a real grip on the jacket at the waist. This shows that there is room for one and two layers.

Trousers / Overalls:

- Let the child take some big steps. This should be easy and smooth.

- The reflexes on the legs should be clearly visible.

- The leg closures should not end up so that the child walks on them.

- Let the child sit on his knees. The leg closure should not end above the foot and it should be comfortable to sit, without it tightening in the buttocks.

- You should be able to take a real grip on the shoulders without it tightening in the crotch.

- You should be able to take a real grip on the pants at the waist. This shows that there is room for one and two layers.

WHAT SIZE OF GLOVES SHOULD THE CHILD HAVE?

During autumn and winter, children need mittens to avoid freezing. In order for them to be able to play and explore completely freely, the mittens need to be the right size. The table below is a size guide for which size of mittens for the child's age.

What do I do with small clothes and shoes?

Children generally grow rapidly in a short time, especially at an early age. Clothes and shoes usually need to be updated every season, so that children can run and play without problems. Products with quality do not stop being good products because the small ones have become big. Tretorn's children's clothes and shoes can be passed on to a sibling, friends, sold or donated. It appreciates both the environment and the environment.
